Hey Len, thanx for dropping in! Love this quote - found it in the mid-1990s and have used it since. She says it far better than I ever could ...

Things are progressing with projects, but what an ... odd? adventurous? scary? all-of-the-above? ... year this has been. And yet, a strong sense that God is watching over me and providing what is needed, as it is needed. Guess God invented the just-in-time inventorying system, eh?

Cool deal, Dr. D - you do rock royal, you know, right up there with Mr. Pythagorus!

Thanks for the lead. Once I get rich and famous ... okay, rich ... well, allrightee then, once I finally have time to get into the mathematical modeling aspects, be assured that I shall delve more fully into The Theorem! B-

Your term "cultural distance" sparked a connection in me just now. Check this out: http://betterexplained.com/articles/measure-any-distance-with-the-pythagorean-theorem/

"The [Pythagorean] theorem isn’t limited to our narrow, spatial definition of distance. It can apply to any orthogonal dimensions: space, time, movie tastes, colors, temperatures. In fact, it can apply to any set of numbers."

I don't know what metrics you are using to determine cultural location, but this little article shows that if it can be quantified, it can be compared using the pythagorean theorem. Hope it helps!

Hi again Sonja, and thanks! I love the study of gems and precious stones - lots of intriguing analogies there. Plus, I've enjoyed the practitioner aspects: digging and hunting and sifting for various stones - garnets and agates and sapphires, oh my! Very fun. Anyway, glad you learned a ton, and as our friend TallSkinnyKiwi [Andrew Jones] would say, "MetaPhors be with you." But then, isn't that just the point? We like metaphors because they marry abstract concepts with concrete aspects to create something more memorable to carry with us ...

Hi Sonja and thanks for dropping by!

Your comment made me think about food analogies: Sometimes it seems an odd thing - maybe ironic, even - that what we learn is meant not only for ourselves but the benefit of others, too ... at least, those who choose to chew on it as you do. If it's all pre-chewed or pre-digested then it's stuff that's meant as food for babies or people who are ill. Anyway, enjoy the chewing!

More specifically, it seemed that the interpersonal conflicts were based in how people learn differently and live their lives differently. In other words, it was about culturality not just personality. Also, this ministry meltdown was, in great part, about my learning to discern how healthy versus toxic organizational development occurs, and what happens when leaders do not respond to challenges about what seems to be flawed spiritual DNA.

That has given me a lot to chew on ... Thanks!

Wow ... Brad, this is amazing. I learned a ton here. Especially about precious stones. But I love how you used them for your analogies. It's really great.

Yo Rob! Excellent to hear from yuhz! Looking forward to sharing some more of the details and stories with these points. And re: being sick, I'm not the first to say it, but there are times when what we learn from illness outweighs what it takes from us ...
